1095 days...

It has been 1095 days....that is 3 years since dad died...I think about him every day still and miss that he is not in our lives...I guess this will always be the way...I thought Evangeline would forget by now but every so often she says something...and just yesterday she said she wished people didn't die and she wished Grandad was still alive...and I said we all do...

He was such a fabulous husband, father and grandfather that he will always be very much missed...I have been sorting out some old photos and have some great ones from when he was young...And mum and dad's first annivarsary...I still cannot get my heart around scrap booking recent photos of dad but think I will try these older photos...Lissy

taking photos...

OK - so I am doing Sharon's photography course...the class all made perfect sense to me two weeks ago...but nothing was happening in my brain yesterday when I tried to do the homework...but I did take some nice photos (well I like them!)...but have no idea how I took them...lol...

I was just fiddling around...oh well! Here is Evangeline "hiding" from me taking photos....lol...
Tonight is the next class...Lissy

back in the saddle...

Evangeline has been asking for about 18 months to start riding lessons again...we were going when she was about 5...and so yesterday we started again...and she loved it! Geraldine teaches them well..all the care of the pony, safety and good riding technique...I am looking to buy a pony for the girls so if any one in Western Australia knows of a quiet pony looking for a good home please let me know!

Morganne was enthralled too and wanted to ride as well so Geraldine let her have a little ride at the end! I was holding her so no photo! And of course she wants a pink pony now! lol....I had thought she would be too scared...but she kept saying my turn and she patted every horse and pony she could get to! The mud kitchen under the trees is getting plenty of use! I got a few things like baskets from the charity (thrift) shops for them to collect flowers and do their cooking....I had to eat many many meals on Sunday! The dogs...The new girls hanging out...And a squishy sister kiss...And that is about it from here - Lissy

our saturday...

Today we headed of to catch up with my sister in law and niece again for coffee...and then we went to pick up mum and headed to Fremantle.

We are going each Saturday so Evangeline can attend an art class at the Kidogo Gallery...

We had some seafood for lunch at Kailis...then a play on the beach...I should have been trying out the stuff from the photography course but I am afraid I just stuck to auto...Then Evangeline headed into class...mum, Morganne and I looked around a few shops...then had a play at the playground..and a coffee...we popped in to see how E was going at the end of her class...she sat M up next to her and let her paint on her sketches while she worked on her canvas! Evangeline is loving the class as she is so happy to be learning so much about art and colours and so on!And as you can see Morganne wore her new bolero jacket today! And we have a new addition to our family...meet Gigi...pink just for Morganne...So a busy but good day...and the rain has been getting to the agricultural areas! That is very good news...E is having a sleepover with mum tonight so a quiet evening around here...Lissy

applause please...

I did it...I feel like doing a Dora dance...lol...look at this bolero jacket I just made for Morganne...I cut the fabric out about 2 months ago...and then procrastinated badly thinking I had bitten off more than I could chew...

But today was the day...while it is still cold and before she grows out of it!!...

And it was so easy...it only took a couple of hours to make...I can't wait for her to wear it! It has 3/4 sleeves and is cropped...I used a rugby jersey knit for the main fabric and some cute floral for the lining...and found the best buttons...all from Spotlight!

The pattern is
this one...from Leila & Ben...seriously cute patterns and easy to follow!

So onto the next project! Lissy

multiplication and montessori maths...

Last night I went to a Parent Montessori Maths Evening at school...it was focusing on multiplication in lower primary...year one to three (6-8 year olds)...

Maths has never been my strong point and it was fabulous to see how they approach it at our school and the equipment they use...it is all very hands on and concrete to develop real understanding...rather than just learning the Times Tables song...

Evangeline is 6 and a half and is working on her 1s, 2s and 3s times tables...initially it is all hands on with no writing so they learn the concept of groups of and lots of...

They start with equipment like the multiplication board ...this one is doing the 5s...and they add a row of beads for each group of five and then count...
And the bead chains...there is one chain for each number...this picture shows the 6s chain...so they learn to count in groups of six putting number markers of 6, 12, 18 and so on...then see how much 6 lots of six makes (squared) and so on up to a 6 cubed block as a visual...And then move onto equipment such as the Pythagoras Board...and some other written work...
If I had been taught like this I am sure I would have had a better understanding of maths...I am so happy Evangeline is learning maths in this way...I am looking forward to the next sessions...Lissy

august so far...

I think we are flat out doing nothing around here...well nothing exciting or interesting but very busy all the same...no exciting photos but memories recorded!

We have been out and about catching up with cousins and visiting friends for lunch and getting busy making potions...And heading to Fremantle for a play and an art class....it is winter still but some rather nice days after some cold ones...We have been out and about in the garden a lot with grandma pruning roses and making mud pies, going on a couple of bike rides and catching up with other friends. I am setting up a mud pie kitchen for them under the trees after seeing this post...Plus I am putting a lot of time in with Evangeline and her school work...her auditory processing and working memory are a bit low...thanks to recurrent ear infections...nothing drastic but she needs some ongoing support.

Evangeline had a sleep over at Grandma's and went to the zoo to see the African animals as they are studying Africa at school and she is doing a talk on giraffes...did you know their feet are as big as dinner plates! And their stride is 15 feet (4 and 1/2 metres)! There is a baby giraffe at Perth Zoo which Evangeline thought was lovely!

There is so much I need to do around the house that I am mostly doing nothing! It is had to know where to start! I get over whelmed and then procrastinate badly! I cannot even seem to get started on any scrapbooking or sewing although I have millions of ideas...too many I think is the problem!

I have started Sharon Manning's photography course...aimed at getting people like me off auto! I rely on a great camera on auto and take lots of photos...I am not trying to take perfect portraits...but rather capture my kids and their personality and stages in their development...and other everyday stuff we do...This approach mostly works but sometimes I am disappointed so I want to know how to do more...And for the first time all that photography mumbo jumbo is starting to make sense! This course was full but they are planning another soon at Tomorrow's Memories if you are in Perth...

And someone else is very keen on Bubbles too! I have ordered a pattern so we can start making her clothes! Morganne keeps telling me she wants a pink one...and since Blythe dolls come in a multitude of hair colours it is possible!

And Ben is away at work so it is a little quiet again around here as we only get to talk to him once a week!

August has been very dry here so far and the farmers are desperate for some rain...it is forecast this week so I am hoping it gets out to the agricultural areas...it doesn't really matter if my garden dies but it does matter to the farmers...so I am hoping the rain will pass Perth quickly and go where it is really needed!
